Make your own flavored mayo - the perfect dipping sauce for french fries, breads, and crackers....and the perfect homemade gift for Father's Day! With flavors like pesto, sun dried tomato/basil, and lemon pepper garlic, you won't be able to resist (and neither will he!)
When it comes to weaknesses, most of mine tend to fall in the "sweet tooth" category. Cheesecake, turtle sundaes, salted caramel, gooey brownies....if there's one thing that's true about my food loves, it's that I love my desserts!! My theory is that you're either one or the other. Either a sweets person or a salty person. A good example of someone who's salty? Jorden! He can easily take just one or two bites of a dessert and then be done.....but if you stick a plate of nachos in front of him, forget it!! And that's how I am with my sweets.
But. I have somewhat recently discovered a new weakness....and although it has sweet in the name, it actually doesn't fit into the sweet tooth category at all! My new weakness? Sweet potato fries! Or, better yet, wedges. I seriously can't get enough of them......to the point where I have to limit how often I make them because I know I'll eat WAY too many! Jorden, though? He can take 'em or leave 'em (preferably leave 'em - they're too sweet for him!) Yep - I guess you could say our tastes are pretty different.
There is one area where we completely agree, though....and that's the area of flavored dipping sauces. Our absolute favorite is sriracha mayo - a wonderful blend of spicy and creamy that is SO VERY TASTY on potato wedges! But...you never want to have too much of a good thing, right? We'd hate to get tired of our old favorite. So I decided to come up with some new favorites - a collection of easy, delicious "go-to" sauces for potato wedges, sandwiches, even vegetables! Ready!? Here goes!
Sriracha Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 Tbsp. Sriracha Chili Hot Sauce
Sun Dried Tomato/Basil Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 Tbsp. chopped fresh basil
1 Tbsp. chopped sun dried tomatoes in oil
1/2 Tbsp. oil from sun dried tomato jar
Pesto Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 Tbsp. pesto
Wasabi Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 tsp. wasabi paste
Lemon-Pepper Garlic Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 tsp. minced garlic (2 cloves)
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
freshly ground pepper, to taste
Mustard Dill Mayo
1/2 c. mayo
1 tsp. mustard powder
1/2 tsp. dried dill
My new personal favorite....(with the sweet potato wedges, of course)....was the lemon-pepper garlic. Surprise! I have yet to test them with regular potato wedges....I'm worried that if I do, I'll develop a brand new weakness! And then I'll really be on the road to becoming a salty person, or maybe a salty AND sweet person! Which is Just. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Enjoy!

Hi there... do you make your own mayo base?
ReplyDeleteFlavored Mayos are called "Aiolis"...I love using fancy "Culinary" terms...it makes me (and my cooking) sound...well...Fancy! LOL! I make home--made mayo using my immersion blender...i start at the bottom and work my way up...
ReplyDeleteIf you like sweet potatoes fries and flavored mayo, try cranberry and mayo (I like to use Best Food/ Hellmann's) equal parts of both mix and chill, also good on turkey sandwich. Love your suggestion also.
